I include this ride for completeness and the opportunity to give a plug to the local bike shop: The Bike Route. They not only fixed my flat while I waited, they did it fast and gave me advice about riding around Naples. Give them some business if you can.
The ride itself was pretty pedestrian, pun intended. Naples is like Palm Beach West, without the charm and amenities for the peasants. There's no place to bike that's not along a road and the bike lanes are discontinuous. There's no public waterfront except at the ends of the streets that are perpendicular to the shoreline. So the only real scenery is second homes for the very wealty. To be sure some of them are gorgeous but one begins to wonder if there isn't a better use for the money. My two cents...
