Variety is the theme in Paisley Woods: vertical, vegetation, terrain. Granted, Florida is not known for high mountain peaks but this rided manages to include almost 100 feet of vertical in ten miles and it's not just one hump up and whee down. A little here, a lot there, keeps you on your toes and your shifters.
The flora is all over the map as well. Mostly, it's sand pines and flat grassy areas but there are areas of palm and palmetto. The places I liked the most were the oak groves, with the sunlight filtering through the leaves these places were almost magical. I suspect there is an abundance of wildlife here as well; I saw two large, very healthy looking, deer bounding through the woods. They did not stop long enough to pose for a picture. Also saw a large tan (underside) hawk who turned out to be camera shy.
Finally, the terrain is perfect for someone like me. There are ups and downs but it's not too much. There are very sandy spots but it's not too much. There are tight turns and narrow spots but it's not too much. And there are some roots, I'm proud to say that I jumped a few of them. I found the sandy places to be kind of like pedalling with flat tires or climbing a bodacious hill, I was in the granny gear on flat areas sometimes. I found speed to be the key to successful sand navigation, that plus pedalling real fast and hard.

Garmin GPSMap 60CSx
A GPS system that's really useful for trails and streams. It can be used for highway navigation but I don't really reccomend it. It will lay down tracks, including elevation, for every place you go. You can easily mark waypoints (where you are right now).
This is the unit that produced all the tracks and waypoints that you see in this section of the website.

Garmin Etrex Legend
I used to own one of these and replaced it with the 60CSx for a lot of reasons but primarily for the color screen that my aging eyes could read.
A great GPS unit primarily for hiking and biking. Will record tracks, ie, where you have been. Will help you get back if you get lost. Not suggested for road navigation but can be used for that.
